A dentist from India who is now a Canadian citizen, still only 30 years old, I am a woman who is full of energy and determination to rebuild her career in dentistry here in America, her new permanent home. Not just a home, however, I also think of America as a base for the practice of global dentistry. My heart is in dental missions and I profoundly hope to devote increasing amounts of my time in this area of dentistry, especially over the long term. Since shortly after coming to America 5 years ago, I have been working as a dental hygienist and constantly learning from the dentists in our practice. Dr. XXXX, my primary mentor, constantly encourages me to pursue my goal of becoming a DDS in North America. He is especially supportive of my foremost area of research interest and dedication where I hope to most distinguish myself professionally, in the design and implementation of non-surgical protocols for the systematic evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

I think nursing not only includes taking care of patients and helping out the doctors. I believe that there is some art to nursing as well, other than all the education and science involved of course. I believe that that caring is the essence of nursing, and that it should be viewed by the nurses as their moral ideal of preserving human dignity. This is to be done by helping the patients in finding some deeper meaning to their illnesses and suffering so that they are able to understand themselves better and are able to restore and promote their personal harmony and balance between the mind, body, and soul. Thus, I believe that nurses have to be consciously engaged in caring for the patients if they are to connect and establish relationships that work to promote their health and healing.
