[78] It topped the Billboard 200 chart for 37 weeks and was in the top 10 of the 200 for 80 consecutive weeks. It was the first album to have seven Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, including " Billie Jean ", " Beat It ", and " Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' ". [79] In December 2015, Thriller was certified for 30 million shipments by the RIAA , making it the only album to achieve that feat in the United States. This is the gold standard of all independent, low-budget movies about time travel. Shane Carruth (who wrote, directed, edited, scored, produced, and co-stars) famously spent just $7,000 making his mind-bending tale of two guys who accidentally invent a time machine. But Primer is so much more than something that can be reduced to “big ideas on a tiny budget.” As the movie progresses, the invention lurches from amazing discovery to destructive force, as timelines overlap and intersect and a wedge forms between the two friends. It gets confusing as hell, for both the audience and the characters—but you never lose the sense that Carruth knew exactly what wanted to do, every step of the way.
